The panel...and spending all that money !! ....

20/10/2012 - Design

Over the time of the project my views on the panle and electrics have changed from simple to complex and back again.  I have toyed with electronic circuit breakers, very piece of glass and all sorts of backup instrument arrangements.

It started here :

Key working assumption:  Light as possible, no IFR needed.  So light VFR instrumentationAh forget that....what about a Grand Rapids Technology Twin EFIS & EIS??......gorgeous.

Anyway its my first idea, and I was experimenting with epanel builder.

29/09/2007 - I have seen a great combined EFIS, GPS & systems monitors.
My second try is to make use of MGL Avionics Stratomaster Enigma.  Two of them linked to one another via USB; standby compass, airspeed indicator and altimeter.  Garmin radio, transponder and audio panel.  I like the programmability of the Enigmas, and with two of them I can always have a full screen moving map running.  They are great value for money too.

However a few things occurred along the way - epanel builder is no more ! I am using a quadrant for engine controls, MGL have introduced an iEFIS touch screen glass setup and I have had to revaluate due to costs.  I wanted to be close to all electrical but could still get about if that failed as well.

So now I have the following in the design:

bullet

Dual 8.5" iEFIS from MGL Avionics
Funkwerk ATR-833-2K Transceiver
Garrecht - Remote Transponder Unit
Steam gauge 2.25" altimeter, 2" vertical card compass, VANS 2.25" airspeed indicator
MGL Infinity MAP1 engine control (for the endurance bus in electrical emergencies)
MGL Infinity TP1  oil control (for the endurance bus in electrical emergencies)
Infinity AV1  attitude control (for the endurance bus in electrical emergencies)

And here it is all laid out on the panel blank:
